V40

The V40™ taper was first introduced in 1995 and since then its clinical benefits have been enjoyed by several hundreds of thousands of patients (Accolade, ABGII and Exeter).
V40™ stands for 5°40’ (the “V” being a “5” in Roman numbering). This angle defines the slope of the taper. 5°40’ is a rather common slope for Morse cones in orthopedics. The particularity resides in the rather smaller dimensions of the cone as shown on the illustration.

Improved range of motion (ROM)

  • Stems incorporating the V40™ taper have a comparatively smaller diameter neck resulting in increased ROM plus reduced change of impingement. The V40™ taper also results in a comparatively smaller outside diameter of skirted heads, thus increasing ROM.

Extensive range of head diameters and offset

  • The comparatively short V40™ taper allows the use of many different head diameters and offsets. This allows restoration of the patient’s leg length, improving joint biomechanics and maximizing patient comfort and ease of movement

Wide range of bearing surface options

  • Stryker V40™ heads are available in Orthinox® stainless steel, Vitalium®  cobalt-chrome, and Alumina ceramics

Stem neck strength preserved

  • Finite Element Analysis studies show smooth stress distributions at the junction of the neck and the stem [1]. All Stryker stems have been tested  according to ISO 7206-6: 1992 (Method of determination of endurance properties of head and neck region of stemmed femoral components).
